5. The Utah Jazz demonstrated their commitment to service during NBA Hoops for Troops week by participating in a special project to refurbish the gymnasium at the George H. Whalen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Salt Lake City. New wall paint and logos, a new basketball goal and backboard, and a refinished floor were unveiled in a special ceremony attended by Jazz players Joe Johnson and George Hill, Larry H. Miller Sports & Entertainment President Steve Starks, General Manager Dennis Lindsey, Assistant Coach Johnnie Bryant, and Jazz Bear. The group also participated in fall clean-up projects and hospital room visits during the community service event.“ Participating in Hoops for Troops is just one way for our organization to show its appreciation to our military members,” Starks said.“ We are proud to stand by these service men and women and give them the recognition they deserve for their sacrifices.”
