DRIVEN 2 TEACH EARNS AN A+
Driven 2 Teach started as a conversation between Larry H.
Miller and American author and historian David McCullough in
2007. The two shared their passion for history, as well as their
concern over how to foster better teaching and greater learning
in the classroom setting. The conversation ultimately led to the
development of Driven 2 Teach, a program that helps teachers
improve the way history is taught in our schools. Teachers may
apply or nominate fellow educators for the program.
“Education is an important part of the Larry H. Miller Group of
Companies, and my goal is to give every qualifying history teacher
in Utah the opportunity to attend a Driven 2 Teach field study,”
said Gail Miller. “Visiting a historical site provides meaningful
context and personal experience that a textbook cannot replicate.
This program offers teachers an educational opportunity they can
share with their students in the classroom.”
Twenty-eight teachers participated in each of the trips in 2014.
This year, teachers went on historic visits to New York and
Philadelphia; Colonial Williamsburg and Washington, DC; as
well as Boston and Philadelphia. More than 500 teachers have
participated since the program began in 2007.
A LITTLE HELP FOR A FRIEND
LHM COLLISION CENTER BOISE LENDS A HELPING HAND
In November 2013, Boone Bartlome of Boise, Idaho, suffered a
broken neck while playing high school football, rendering him
a c5 quadriplegic. His best friend, Justin Klusek, had the idea of
restoring Boone’s old truck to help him keep his spirits up during
the long months of rehab ahead. Classmate Koby Clark was trying
to raise funds for a paint job when the effort caught the attention
of his dad, James Clark, Collision Center of Boise manager. James
got with his assistant manager, Todd Freeman, and they decided
they could help make the dream a reality. With the participation
of other local businesses, the 1993 Dodge 250 truck received a
complete makeover. Justin presented the truck to Boone for his
birthday on May 3, 2014.
