Issue 13 – August 2019 Airport Beautification Project The Airport’s main entrance and land- scape beds were recently reworked to remove old landscaping that was diseased. The new Southwest-themed landscaping coordinates with Fire Station 12’s land- scaping. The use of drought tolerant plants will also reduce the amount of water used for irrigation. Upcoming Projects Perimeter Fence Project The Airport has received a federal grant for replacement of the perimeter fence. Wildlife fencing will be in- stalled on north and west sides, excluding the creek from the airport operations area. A six-foot chain link fence, with barb-wire topper, will replace the existing fence along Green Oaks and South Collins. Temporary fencing, increased Airport security personnel, and additional police department patrols will be in place to keep the Airport secure during the 4-month construction. The project is expected to begin late November. The Texas Department of Transportation, Aviation Division will act as the City’s agent and manage all aspects of the bidding, contract award, and construction oversight. A construction schedule will be available as soon as the contractor is selected and a start date determined. ATP Flight Academy Project Airline Transport Professionals (ATP), will begin construction of a new flight academy and hangar in the next 4-6 weeks. The self-serve fuel pump will remain open during the construction. Harrison Aviation Executive Hangar Project Harrison Aviation has begun construction on a 35,000 sq. ft. executive hangar, and additional aircraft parking apron, on the site directly south of their existing hangars. Please use the fuel farm gate whenever possi- ble, and be mindful of the construction when driving or taxiing in the hangar area. 3
