p r o d u cts DORIC SPRING’TAINER WINS 2016 SAFETY SOLUTION OF THE YEAR D oric Products’ ongoing commitment to providing a best practice environment for employees has been recognised. The Australian owned company received the 2016 Safety Solution of the Year Award for the development of the Spring’Tainer. The Doric safety co-ordinator was alerted and together, over an 18 month period, with a team made up of representatives from various departments - including factory floor, HR, engineering, tooling and Doric Directors, the Spring’Tainer was born. The Endeavour Awards, now in its 13th year, are presented by Manufacturers’ Monthly – Australia’s leading publication for the manufacturing industry, and celebrate Australian manufacturing methods and processes, innovation and excellence. The collaborative effort provided a number of benefits across different areas of the business, including eliminating awkward movements, minimising risk and injury, increasing productivity and morale for all concerned workers, reducing the process time and reducing labour costs. In 2016, Doric was nominated for the Safety Solution category following a recent overhaul of the manufacturing process for its industry leading spring balance systems. A manual labour component on the assembly line was identified by staff as strenuous and tedious, often resulting in soreness and with the potential to cause repetitive strain injuries. “We are absolutely thrilled to have received this Award. It is a true testament to the commitment and dedication of our entire team,” said Nigel Long, Group CEO, Alchin Long Group. “We value input and feedback from all our staff, and this project is a perfect example of how we are striving to empower our team, to 01 work together to find best practice across all facets of our business.” For more information, contact Doric Products on 02 9609 2555. 01 (Left to right) Ching Heng, Team Leader, Doric Products, and Rachael Alchin, HR Officer, Doric Products receiving the award from David Duncan, Managing Director, SICK Pty Ltd. THE AWS VENTIENT™ SOLUTION To overcome these problems, Architectural Window Systems introduces the AWS Ventient™. A trickle vent is a very small opening in a window or other building envelope component to allow small amounts of ventilation in spaces when major elements of the design (such as windows or doors) are otherwise closed. S tudies have shown that operable windows are rarely used to maximise natural ventilation. Society's reliance on heating, ventilation and air-conditioning (HVAC) systems for airflow has become all too common. As a result, poor indoor air quality (IAQ) has become a growing concern for architects and building occupants alike. Natural ventilation is the obvious solution, proven to achieve positive health and productivity results in building occupants. 46 Australian Window Association While operable windows do provide fresh air, increased natural light and natural ventilation, there are a growing number of reasons as to why they aren’t always used. Some of these include security, heat or noise and even cold drafts. Previously, air leakage seemed to be the nonoptimal (yet accepted) solution. However, as building standards improve and our focus on airtightness increases, we can no longer rely on air leakage as a mechanism for ventilation within the building envelope. Without electric power, sensors or human intervention, the AWS Ventient™ device passively controls ventilation volumes in accordance with ambient temperatures. This allows for optimised ventilation without exposure to uncomfortable cold drafts or security issues. The AWS sub-head integrated Ventient™ trickle ventilation solution enables the provision of fresh air regardless of occupancy, making it ideal for multiresidential apartments, aged care, education and health facilities, offices, hotels, student accommodation and Green Star projects as part of a c
