BANKS STREET

The Banks Street project is a contemporary home understated in its expression , with internal spaces immediately connected to its external environment .

Arranged in a U-shaped configuration , the shorter edge reinforces the street frontage and the two legs are broken down into a soft axis of the lap pool and a built axis of the main building . The leading edge of this built axis defines the entry point and provides the separation of garage and house .
The built axis is further broken down in form to reflect the balance of privacy of the household - the shared realm of living and kitchen , and the private space of the main bedroom suite . Generous articulation of the spaces allows a subtle transition and interior relationship that is intuitive rather than defined by doors off corridors .
Maintaining a comfortable living space was a key consideration in the design of this unique home . ThermaHEART™ thermally broken window and door systems were used throughout to ensure maximum efficiency and comfort , allowing large expanses of glass and bold wide openings without compromising on thermal comfort . Coupled with Centor™ retractable screens , a seamless transition is maintained to exterior spaces .
In order to minimise the disturbance to the topography , the house is a split-level arrangement following the natural slope and is entered at the middle of the three levels . The lap pool is set flush with this level and emerges out of the ground by 1200 mm to allow the pool wall to become the balustrade between the main courtyard space . This direct connection is further reinforced by the inclusion of low-level windows poolside .
The architecture incorporates sustainable materials as building expression , including the broad use of concrete as finished surfaces , the retention of the existing timber floor boards , to the house that was demolished , to create the battened ceiling of the entry walkway and thermally broken double glazing .

KAIZEN EXECUTIVE WELCOMES A NEW TEAM MEMBER

Zachary Esler recently joined Kaizen Executive as a Business Consultant and will focus on expanding the recruitment aspects of the business . With eight years experience in the building and construction sector , he brings a key understanding of the residential building and construction industry with a focus on high end residential development .

After becoming a fully qualified Carpenter , Zac spent two years abroad , working on high end residential renovation and retrofit projects across greater London and the United Kingdom . Some of the projects required complete internal demolition and refurbishment , including kitchens , bathrooms , uPVC windows and doors , skylights , under floor heating and staircase installation . Some of these projects were major renovations with budgets upwards of $ 4 million .
Since returning to Australia , Zac has worked on major commercial construction sites in Melbourne and Sydney installing windows and doors , architectural hardware and general internal apartment fitouts .
Zac has decided that the time is right to ‘ down tools ’ and use his practical skills and knowledge of the industry to grow and develop Kaizen Executive ’ s construction recruitment further . He is currently undertaking his Certificate in Recruitment and Selection and looks forward to getting involved and learning about the fenestration , glass and glazing industry as he works with Kaizen Executive ’ s current clients .
