COOERWULL HOUSE
Built between 1839 and 1842, heritage listed Cooerwull House is the third oldest house west of the Blue Mountains.
The Historical Society of Australia has listed the home as a historically significant house with the assessment of‘ rare’.
As part of a restoration project, Crimsafe Ultimate security screens were chosen to protect and secure the home’ s entrances against vandalism, while revealing the house’ s unique historical character for visitors to enjoy.
The project presented unique design challenges. The timber door frames were hand made from local hardwood over 175 years ago using handmade nails, making installation of the eight Ultimate security doors a significant challenge.
A number of entrance ways and openings appeared to have been fitted with doors and screens some time in the past, thus making it difficult to locate the hinge screws into a section that had not been previously drilled out. The stone threshold in many of the doorways had worn down as much as 30 mm.
The solutions to these unique problems included meticulous attention to the accurate measurement of the frames and patient and careful installation to accommodate 175 years of wear and tear, while retaining the building’ s historical charm and integrity.
