The Queensland War Widows’ Guild was established in 1961 to provide affordable housing for war widows over 55 years of age. Today the Guild owns and manages four blocks of units – the latest block with 24 two bedroom units.

Security was a top priority for the war widows, who average 70 years of age. The ladies live alone, but they like to know what goes on around them and often keep their front doors open, even at night, which is the reason they need dependable security doors.
Since the unit block is located close to the water’ s edge, the architect chose Prowler Proof ForceField ® as its unique construction, including welded corners, provide not only high security but also the added benefit of corrosion resistance.
ForceField ® is one of very few complete security screens that has passed the 1,000 hour neutral salt spray test( most manufacturers only test the mesh, and the 1,000 hour acetic acid salt spray test). ForceField ®’ s 316 marine grade stainless steel mesh has also survived a 10,000 hour neutral salt spray test as well.
The total project amounted to well over 200 screens. Both Prowler Proof ForceField ® and Prowler Proof insect screens, also featuring the unique welded corners, were used on front doors, stacking sliders for the balconies, window screens and screen doors in the open internal atrium.
Another Prowler Proof advantage for this kind of project, where scheduling and lead times are key, is that Prowler Proof’ s delivery times are the best in the industry and you always get exactly what you ordered. The online ordering system dictates what happens in the computer controlled factory.
The screens have given the War Widows’ Guild confidence that they have created a safer place for their residents- keeping out intruders while also knowing the products will continue to look great for years to come.
