Star gazing
With Twinkle, Twinkle (live show), Space Explorers, Polaris – the Space Submarine, We
Are Stars, Dinosaurs at Dusk, showing regularly in August at Winchester Science Centre
and Planetarium, there’s a good choice for those scientifically minded youngsters (and
parents) wishing to explore the dark side… or skies! The venue will be closed for scheduled
maintenance from September 5-12.

Get crafty and dance
Pop along and browse the Craft and Gift Market in the Guildhall on August
20. Run by Mynt Image, it’s fully booked and in held in the King Charles
Hall. Meanwhile, Danny Foyle welcomes dancers to the Guildhall most
Tuesdays throughout the year – friendly classes, no partner necessary, just
turn up (16 years and above only). Dances lessons are broken down step
by step in an easy-going environment. Dance Yourself Dizzy class nights
start with a 45-minute beginners’ class, learning and linking basic moves,
and the music caters for all tastes (dance, pop, swing, Latin).

Add a splash of colour
From July 25 to August 31, The Colour
Factory is running a diverse range of
children’s workshops, including: block
printing, watercolour beasts, printed mug
mats, bedroom banners, felt finger puppets,
personalised pegs, little etchings, pipette
painting, collage landscapes, terracotta tile
painting. The Colour Factory runs regular
creative workshops for both children and
adults in a purpose built beach garden
workshop, the Lightbox. Art workshops
for children generally run throughout the
school holidays. Adult workshops include
decorative painting, mixed media, gilding and
decoupage, wire and beadwork, machine
embroidery, creative knitting, contemporary
floral design. All workshops are run by professional artists who have worked
in their creative medium for many years, with a unique knowledge and
understanding of how to encourage students’ creativity and confidence.
