STUDENT SERVICE PROGRAM
Background { 8 / 16 / 14 }
A Williamson education cannot be purchased . It must be earned . As a result , students are required to assist in the maintenance and operation of the college through their service . This includes food service duties , dorm cleaning , repair projects , maintenance of buildings and grounds , and leadership through oversight of other students . Because the college believes that providing “ something for nothing ” can foster unhealthy attitudes , the Student Service Program requires students to apply self-discipline in a setting of service and diligence . Regular details provide opportunities for students to practice college values , while their service is symbolically exchanged for what would otherwise be bought with dollars and cents .
The work settings where student service takes place are administered to provide accountability for the quality ( excellence ) and amount of work performed ( diligence ). Because all students are expected to contribute to the college ’ s operation and to its programs ( to include student activities ), they are expected to exhibit adult behaviors based on the value of hard work in exchange for fair compensation .
Regular Details { 7 / 17 / 07 } Students are assigned to Regular Details as follows :
• Freshmen - KP , Food Serving , and Underclassmen Details
• Juniors - Food Serving , Flag , and Underclassmen Details
• Seniors - Underclassmen Detail Supervision , and Doorman Details
• All Students – Dorm Details ( posted in the dorms )
Students must fulfill assignments conscientiously , punctually , and completely . Any student who cannot perform an assigned detail for any reason must find a replacement to do the detail .
If a student is assigned two details that conflict with each other and he is unable to complete both details satisfactorily , the student must discuss the conflict with the supervisors of both details and work out an authorized plan . If the student has exhausted all options above without a resolution , he may contact the Vice President of Student Affairs for guidance . Students are strongly encouraged to address conflicts in advance and as soon as they become known .
