Scouts BSA
A New Era of Adventure
By Sydney Veneris
After February of 2019, females were allowed to join the Scouts, BSA program (what was formerly known as Boy Scouts). Eagle Scout is a highly respected rank within the Scouts BSA that is recognized by many organizations, colleges, and jobs. It is known among those who are not in the Scouting community that Eagle Scouts are trustworthy, hard-working people that are capable of completing a long-term goal. Earning the rank of Eagle requires a lot of work and dedication; a scout must complete a service project that benefits their community and earn at least 21 merit badges. Five girls from Palestine, Texas, founded Troop 101G and were determined to be some of the first females in history to earn the rank of Eagle Scout. In Palestine, Texas, five girls were able to receive the honorable rank of Eagle Scout in Scouts, BSA, this year. These five girls were Shian Trible, Aven Alexander, Haleigh Chapin, Reagan Sokolowski, and Sydney Veneris. These girls received the award in February of 2021, earning their place in the Inaugural Class of Female Eagle Scouts, which consists of almost 1,000 girls from across the United States. They have the honor of carrying this title with them and also setting an example for young girls in their community. The five Eagles have been featured in articles and multiple television interviews, and their message to viewers remains the same. They wanted to take advantage of the opportunity before them, prove that women are capable of anything they put their minds to, and show other girls that it is possible to make history.
