Roundtable sharing at FCS Update
The last week of August found the Wildcat District Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) Agents heading toward Manhattan for our August FCS Agent Update. This event is always a great time of professional development and networking for agents from across the state of Kansas. One highlight was a presentation by Dr. Michelle Rodgers Ph.D, University of Delaware who challenged us as Extension that, “we can be to health what we were to agriculture for the first 100 years.”
Each year, agents from one area of Kansas are asked to share informational discussion sessions which highlight FCS programming that supports K-State Research and Extension “Grand Challenges”. This year agents from the Southeast Area got to showcase their creativity and innovation while sharing how FCS Extension is making a difference in the lives of Kansans in our area.
It was my privilege to team up with fellow agents from Lyon County and Coffey County to share our varied experiences hosting Poker Walks in our respective communities. You may remember that Wildcat District hosted a Poker Walk in Parsons last spring based on ideas I had gotten from these two fellow southeast area FCS agents. However, each of us manage our programs a little differently so we had a variety of experiences to present. The three of us shared tips and tricks about what has worked for us and lessons we have learned when creating and hosting these fun activities as a part of Walk Kansas. Our Poker Walk Roundtable Discussion was shared twice and we were able to provide ideas and information to a large number of agents who were interested in promoting a similar event next year in their own local communities.
