This is the month I am finishing up the Let’s Play! Leadership series for the school year. The students are glad to see me and are anxious to find out what it is we will be doing! This is always a new insight for the teacher as well since one of the things we do this time is find out how the students see themselves now as compared to August. They have to decide as group (group consensus) if they are average (right along with all the students in their grade located in this area), if they have made more gains or improvements than others, or if they have really excelled. Most of them feel they are just above average! This warrants them a ribbon according to the Danish scale. The ribbons do have Wildcat Extension District on them and I let them know they have now participated in a 4-H event. It is amazing how many of them are excited to get a ribbon! They love the sessions and they write a short thank you note to their principal thanking them for allowing KSRE to come into the classroom and teach the 4-H life skills. They also pick their favorite session from the year and explain what they learned from it.
The grant for the sewing machines was presented to Kylie and I on April 20 at the Parsons Senior Center. We have already ordered them and will be using them for the sewing camp in June. I was also able to change locations since we will need more room. We will be utilizing the LCHS FACS room! They already have cutting tables, storage bins and table space for the sewing machines. This will be a great change and allow us to use all 12 machines. I do already have the beginners class filled!
I went to western Kansas (to Oakley to be exact) with Katie for our KAE4-HA spring meeting. I was awarded the Achievement in Service Award for the Let’s Play! Leadership program I am presenting in the schools. This also comes with a $500.00 scholarship toward the National meeting in Indianapolis I plan on attending in the fall. I am currently the secretary for the state chapter.
Julie receives Achievement in Service Award for her efforts in Let's Play! Leadership. Congratulations Julie!
Julie and Kylie accept grant for new sewing machines to enhance sewing camps in Wildcat District.
