Welcome to the first issue of The Wild Northerner Magazine. We are excited to bring this publication to life and have it enjoyed by outdoors enthusiasts of all kinds across Greater Sudbury and Northern Ontario.
It has been a lot of work to get to this point. I, along with my wife, Arielle, created this digital magazine and website to help generate more awareness and love for everything and anything about the outdoors.
We both poured a lot of energy and our own money to get it off the ground. We hope it resonates with readers, and will grow and become better with each issue as the years roll by.
We will publish four issues per year to start, following the four seasons. We will have new content regularly on the website. It is going to be tough, but we hope we can make each issue better than the last and build up our website and social media sites to the point where they are welcomed sources of events, experiences, people and news.
My family can’t get enough of the outdoors opportunities available in Greater Sudbury and around Northern Ontario. My family does a lot of canoeing, camping, hiking, fishing and exploring. We want this publication and venture to also become a hub for others to share their passion and love for the outdoors.
We will focus on the human interest aspects of the outdoors. We will not be another fishing and hunting publication. There will be some hunting and fishing articles, but our emphasis is on everything to do with the outdoors. We want to cover and promote the big and small and everything in-between. We want to highlight the passion people have and what they gain from being outside in the wilderness and surrounded by nature.
I believe time spent outdoors is never a waste and only benefits those going there.
Whenever I come back from a camping trip, it takes a while to adjust being back in “civilization” where there are paved roads, concrete buildings and tons of people as opposed to dirt trails, green trees and tons of wildlife.
My passion lies in the moment I leave an outdoors experience. It is in that moment I have only one thought - getting back to the outdoors scenery. I can’t get enough of it. My wife and kids share this trait with me.
We believe there are plenty of people like us out there enjoying wilderness as much as we do.
We look forward to taking this journey with everyone.
It’s going to be a lot of fun.
There is so much to do and experience in the outdoors. It is always better outside.
Safe adventures everyone,
Scott Haddow
