PREDATOR ISSUE

CALLS I like having a few calls along on a set-up and always bring my e-caller as well . There are so many incredible calls on today ’ s market , but having a handful of calls will help you call in more coyotes . I like starting out with a long-range call then switching it up to a softer call once you get a coyote coming . The muted sound and a variety will help you call them to well within range of a chip shot .
There are days when my e-caller is dynamite and other days when it is cold as ice . But I love the variety I am able to have with these calls and depending on the time of year , you have mating calls , to fawns in distress . Every trick you can have up your sleeve will help you become more consistent .
One more trick I ’ ve learned is , after the shot , keep calling as there have been many times when I called in one or two more coyotes even after shooting . The landscape has a funny way of deflecting sounds and if they are coming through a low-spot or have the wind against them , they may not hear the shot and keep their pace towards you . So keep calling and give these spots a few minutes before carrying on as you may just end up with more action then you ever thought you would !
PLAY THE WIND Using the wind is the key to success and
many novice callers seem to forget to take this into consideration . Be sure to set-up where you are least likely to have your scent fowl your attempt , as coyotes almost always use the wind to their advantage . Setting up on a high ridge will help as the thermals will carry your scent up above them most mornings and this will help you from being made before you can take your shot .
Try setting up avoiding having the wind right at your back or park yourself in a spot that is protected from the wind a little , if this isn ’ t possible set-up where the wind is blowing to the side or at an angle that will give you the most decent opportunity before being made . By making them approach your stands upwind , you will have much more success .

TAKE YOUR TIME I generally have had my best luck
calling predators in the mornings , but have had days where the action has been hot all day long . Generally the morning and evening stands will provide you with the most consistent call-ins .
Be sure to spend at least a half hour to 45 minutes at each set , as it can sometimes take a while to coax a coyote into coming and cover the ground to your stand . This was one of the things I learned while hunting with Mr . “ Les ” Predator Quest , as I wasn ’ t spending near as much time in each location and I couldn ’ t believe the amount of coyotes we called in long after I would ’ ve pulled the pin to look for my next spot .
