Empowerment:

Brains over Beauty

Thankfully, female artists are striving to combat societal norms regarding female music artists. Miranda Lambert (above), for example, opens her new tour with a "girl" power montage of Beyonce's "Run the World." Sadly, when witnessing this montage, I was shocked. I immdiately pulled out my phone, started squealing, and the feminist in me went crazy. I was ecstatic, but heartbreakingly sad. Even I, a self-proclaimed feminist, was shocked by seeing a fair representation of women. Even though it was laden with sexually suggestive images (as seen from the first page, what isn't?) it, as well as Miranda's entire concert, promoted "girl" power in an astonishing matter.

But Miranda's not the only one! Artists like P!nk and Adele aim for the saim message by presenting female-empowerment songs whilst lacking the sultry representation most artists adhere to.
