MESSAGE FROM THE SENIOR MINISTER OF WORKS MALAYSIA
The flourishing economy of our country over the past decades has been driven by construction and infrastructure development which was executed by professional engineers . This is a trend that is expected to continue in the years ahead .
However , the profession of engineering is broader and more diverse and not confined to this area alone .
In Malaysia , there are many other sectors where engineers serve , for example , academia , research & development , maintenance , manufacturing , plantation , aviation , maritime , and oil & gas . Engineers serving in all these sectors are regulated under the Registration of Engineers Act 1967 , with BEM as their regulator .
We are proud of our Malaysian engineers who have proven their capabilities in implementing world class projects and are highly respected professionals globally .
As we face the complex and competitive global environment , our engineers must become more innovative and creative in solving engineering problems and creating value at all levels . Hence , engineers must perform their services with the highest regard to safety , health and welfare of the public and adhere to the code of ethics of the engineering profession at all times to protect its integrity .
In this respect , it is heartening to note that BEM has ventured into the publication of “ Who ’ s Who in Engineering , Malaysia ” which can serve as a useful resource in connecting our engineers and their fellow engineers across the globe to create opportunities for collaboration , networking and information sharing in their respective fields .
Finally , let me congratulate BEM for producing this useful reference for the engineering community in Malaysia to promote their expertise and talents worldwide .
