ENCHANTING SINGErS
Nothing sets a festive mood like the music of
the season. The Tenors (pictured) bring their
Home for the Holidays: Christmas Classics
and the Hits! tour to Winnipeg. The
multi-platinum selling group has plenty
of high profile holiday experience;
the group took part in the White
House Christmas tree lighting for the
Obamas, and the NBC tree lighting
ceremony at Rockefeller Centre in
New York City. The Tenors take the
stage at the Centennial Concert Hall
on Dec 11.
For something a little different check out
the Rockin’ Elvis Christmas with Rory
Allen. The Elvis Presley tribute
artist from Saskatchewan puts
on an energetic, hip-shaking
show packed with Christmas
favourites and Elvis classics.
Allen plays Club Regent
Event Centre on Dec 14.

Sit back this holiday
season and experience a
wave of moving music wash
over you. The Winnipeg
Symphony Orchestra performs
the breathtaking Messiah
conducted by Daniel Raiskin. The
work by George Frideric Handel was
first performed at Easter in 1742. Today, the
oratorio is traditionally performed around
Christmas. The concert takes place at the
Centennial Concert Hall on Dec 8.
After experiencing classical music, relive
a pop culture classic as the Winnipeg Jazz
Orchestra performs Vince Guaraldi’s jazzy
soundtrack to A Charlie Brown Christmas
(pictured). When the cartoon first aired in 1965,
half of all American households with a television
turned on watched the special. To this day
it continues to be much-loved cartoon
renowned for an outstanding soundtrack.
The concert takes place at the Winnipeg
Art Gallery on Dec 8-9.
A joyful NoISE
These concerts may just inspire a
door-to-door carolling expedition.
Canzona, Winnipeg’s professional
Baroque choir, teams up with
Vancouver’s Pacific Baroque
Orchestra to perform Bach’s
Christmas Oratorio (pictured).
This will be the first time it’s being
performed in Manitoba on period
instruments. The performances are
part of Canzona’s 30th anniversary
celebration. The concerts take place at
Westminster United Church on Dec 7.
The Christmas Festival with The
Phil: Here We Come A-Caroling!
is a must for those who
love choral music. The
Winnipeg Philharmonic
Choir performs its
favourite Christmas
carols accompanied by
organist Wes Elias and
pianist Donna Laube.
The guest choir is
Stevenson-Britannia
School directed by
Julianna Rempel. The
concert is at Crescent
Fort Rouge United
Church on Dec 16.
EAST CoAST
CHrISTmAS
Even though the Atlantic Ocean is
thousands of kilometers away doesn’t
mean you can’t celebrate Christmas like
they do on the East Coast. Family group
The Barra MacNeils (pictured) bring
their annual holiday show An East Coast
Christmas to town. Canada’s Celtic
ambassadors share a mix of stories, singing,
comedy, music and dancing to create the
atmosphere of an East Coast holiday get
together. The concert kicks off on
Dec 4 at the Centennial Concert
Hall.

Celtic Family Christmas.
The concert features
familiar holiday tunes as
well as classic Celtic songs
to make the audience feel
like they’re in Cape Breton on
Christmas Eve. The show takes
place at the Centennial Concert
Hall on Dec 6.

Be transported back to the
golden age of radio. As a
member of the “studio
audience” you are witness
to the creation of It’s a
Wonderful Life: The
Radio Play. The theatre
is transformed into a
radio studio complete
with sound effects
and old-time radio
jingles. The play takes
place at The John Hirsch
Mainstage at the Royal
Manitoba Theatre Centre
from Nov 20-Dec 15.
