A KOKUM’S
INFLUENCE
POEMS IN PAINT
NOVEMBER 17 – DECEMBER 7 Over her four-decade artistic
career, Michèle Drouin has known many passions, including
ceramics, drawing, and poetry. Her abstract acrylic paintings,
which showcase her command of colour, are illuminated
with poetic titles that heighten the meaning of each work
and ask more from the viewer. Drouin stopped painting
in 2011, and this final exhibition of her work will cover the
most important moments of her career from 1977 to 2007.

NOVEMBER 19–30 Honouring his
kokums (grandmothers), Laird Goulet’s
vibrant painting style mimics the floral
beadwork and birch bark biting imprints
of the artists before him. Influenced also
by his love of nature, the detailed works
in Goulet’s exhibition, Inner Reflection,
showcase the legacy of the Ininew
(Cree) peoples, their self-determination,
and the value and resiliency of the
Treaties. He visualizes this intention in
each painting, honouring his belief that
the Treaties will last “as long as the grass
grows and the river flows.” Bearclaw
Gallery, 10403-124 St., 780-482-1204.

WEATHER PATTERNS
NOVEMBER 16 – DECEMBER 9 In his work, Gregory Hardy connects his observations
of the natural world and his joy of painting—ideas he continues to explore in this
new exhibition. His prairie landscapes symbolize dramatic changes in shifting
movements through contrasts in the weather and sky, which he balances with
natural colours and gestural brushwork. With many awards and accolades to his name,
Hardy has been exhibiting his work for over 40 years, which has been inspired by his
hobby farm near Meacham, Saskatchewan. Peter Robertson Gallery, 12323-104 Ave.,
