Course Name: Fiber Arts Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: VA Comprehensive I( 70 %+)
Description: This course introduces fabric and fiber design techniques such as weaving, stitchery and printing and a variety of design techniques, materials, and supplies and explores historical origins and use of fabric in Western and non-Western cultures. This course applies art criticism techniques to judgments about fiber / fabric designs.
Course Name: Sculpture I Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: VA Comprehensive I( 70 %+)
Description: This course introduces the design and production of relief sculpture and sculpture-in-theround and emphasizes the historical origins and functions of sculpture in Western and non-Western cultures. This course includes additive, subtractive, and modeling methods and explores traditional and nontraditional materials for sculpted works and the work of both historical and contemporary sculptural artists.
Course Name: Sculpture II Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 10th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: Sculpture I( 70 %+)
Description: This course enhances level-one skills and explores sculpture techniques and functions from Western and non-Western culture more in-depth using traditional and nontraditional materials and explore more works of both historical and contemporary sculptural artists.
Course Name: AP Studio Art: 2-D Art and Design Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 11th and 12th grade
Prerequisites: Teacher recommendation AND Fall art course must be taken
Description: This is an introductory college-level two-dimensional design course. Students refine and apply 2-D skills to ideas they develop throughout the course. Students will develop skills in a twodimensional medium such as graphic design, photography, collage, printmaking, and others as they learn the principles of 2-D design and will create a portfolio of work to demonstrate inquiry through art and design and development of materials, processes, and ideas over the course of a year. The student’ s portfolio will serve as the AP“ exam” for this course. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
