Course Name: Music Appreciation Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: None
Description: This course introduces production and performance, covering terminology and idioms, elements of music, perceptive listening and attitudes, and appreciation and stresses the ability to become a literate consumer along with the ability to speak and write fluently about music.
Course Name: AP Music Theory Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 10th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: Enrollment in a music class OR teacher recommendation
Description: This course is an introductory college-level music theory course. Students cultivate their understanding of music theory through analyzing performed and notated music as they explore concepts like pitch, rhythm, form, and musical design. This course will prepare students for the AP Music Theory Exam. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Theatre
Course Name: Acting I Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 9th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: None
Description: This course serves as the prerequisite for other theatre courses. This course introduces the acting process and the role of the actor in various styles / methods with a focus on scene study and stresses developing imagination, observation, concentration powers, and self-discipline. This course includes developing physical and vocal control while transmitting emotions, convictions, and ideas; enhances self-confidence and self-awareness. Theatre is used as a means to encourage cooperative learning, team work, organization, and leadership skills. The class allows all students the opportunity to perform on a regular basis and personal growth / skill will be assessed through solo / group performances.
Course Name: Acting II- IV Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 10th- 12th grade
Prerequisites: Previous Acting course( 70 %+)
Description: In Acting II, this course enhances level-one skills with emphasis on classical and historical scene study. In Acting III and IV, there will be an emphasis on advanced monologue work, advanced scene study, extensive audition training, student-directing, ensemble acting in a variety of mainstage productions, and object exercises.
