Course Name : Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps
Description : Air Force Junior Reserve Officers ’ Training Corps ( AFJROTC ) is one of the largest youth development programs in the country with a mission to develop citizens of character . This program , which spans from two to four years , is available to high school students in grades 9-12 . It offers a flexible , blended curriculum that allows students to join at any point during their high school journey and has been part of Cobb County since 1970 .
AFJROTC aims to educate and train high school cadets in citizenship , promote community service , instill responsibility , build character , and develop self-discipline , all while providing instruction in air and space fundamentals .
THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO MILITARY OBLIGATION ASSOCIATED WITH TAKING HIGH SCHOOL AIR FORCE JUNIOR ROTC AND NO UNIFORM REQUIREMENT FOR FIRST YEAR STUDENTS .
The curriculum includes Aerospace Science ( AS ), Leadership Education ( LE ), and Wellness components , and it serves students from both Wheeler and Walton High Schools . Students who successfully complete the AFJROTC course will receive academic credit applicable towards graduation requirements . Depending on the course level ( AS 100-400 ), students will learn various life skills , such as understanding the impact of weather , career selection , project management , training in chosen career fields , college admission and financing , and American civics . Additionally , students will enhance their leadership and management skills through the study and practice of responsibility and teamwork , learn orderliness and precision through drill and ceremonies , and understand the role of public service in American society .
Note : * 3 units of AFJROTC will waive the Health and Personal Fitness graduation requirements and * 1 course AS 200 : Science of Flight will count as a 4th science elective for any GA college / university .
