Course Name : Foundations of Algebra Type of Course : Core Course
Available to : 9th grade
Prerequisites : Math 8 ( below an 80 %)
Description : This course is aimed at students who have low standardized test performance in prior grades and / or have demonstrated significant difficulties in previous mathematics classes and / or who may have gaps in their math skills . This course will provide many opportunities to revisit and expand the understanding of foundational algebra concepts , will employ diagnostic means to offer focused interventions , and will incorporate varied instructional strategies to prepare students for required high school mathematics courses . This course will be taken concurrently with the Algebra course for the entire school year and will replace an elective spot . This course can be used as a fourth math credit if a student is only choosing to pursue admission into a technical college .

Description : This is the first course in a sequence of three high school courses designed to ensure career and college readiness . Students will apply their algebraic and geometric reasoning skills to make sense of problems involving algebra , geometry , bivariate data , and statistics . This course focuses on algebraic , quantitative , geometric , graphical , and statistical reasoning . In this course , students will continue to enhance their algebraic reasoning skills when analyzing and applying a deep understanding of linear functions , sums and products of rational and irrational numbers , systems of linear inequalities , distance , midpoint , slope , area , perimeter , nonlinear equations and functions , quadratic expressions , equations , & functions , exponential expressions , equations , & functions , & statistical reasoning . Students will be prepared to an End-of-Course Exam .
Course Name : Honors Algebra
Available to : 9th grade
Type of Course : Core Course
Prerequisites : Math 8 ( 95 %+) each quarter AND 575 + on EOG OR Advanced / AC Math 8 ( 90 %+) 3 out of 4 quarters AND 575 + on EOG
Description : This is an accelerated college prep course that covers all the standards included in the onlevel Algebra course with a few additional standards and explores the concepts at a deeper level . This course is designed to prepare students for Advanced Placement mathematics courses . Students will be prepared to an End-of-Course Exam . Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course .
