Course Name: Honors Dramatic Writing( Film, Television, and Theatre) Type of Course: Core Course
Available to: 12th grade
Prerequisites: Literature and Composition III( 90 %+), H. Literature and Composition III( 74 %+), OR AP English Language( 70 %- 79 %)
Description: This course focuses on skills to culminate in creating and developing dramatic writing for theatrical media with special emphasis on film and television. Includes development of“ writerly stance” by reading, viewing, and analyzing tests and visual media from a writer’ s point of view, with focus on understanding the construction process and including the application of conventions of standard English grammar and usage. Students will also earn an embedded Honors Theatre and Literature I Fine Arts credit on their transcript; students will receive the same final grade for both courses. Students earn an additional 0.5 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: AP English Literature and Composition Type of Course: Core Course
Available to: 12th grade
Prerequisites: H. Literature and Composition III( 90 %+) or AP English Language and Composition( 80 %+)
Description: This course aligns to an introductory college-level literary analysis course. The course engages students in the close reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature to deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure. As they read, students consider a work’ s structure, style, and themes, as well as its use of figurative language, imagery, symbolism, and tone. Writing assignments include expository, analytical, and argumentative essays that require students to analyze and interpret literary works. The course will involve independent study and frequent written analysis to prepare students for the AP English Literature and Composition Exam. Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course.
Course Name: Journalism / Annual I- IV( Yearbook) Type of Course: Elective Course Available to: 11th and 12th grade Prerequisites: None
Description: These courses let students explore journalistic writing through the analysis and creation of yearbooks. It concentrates on the purpose, influence, structure, and language use. It also covers newsgathering, ethics, copyrighting, editing, and revising. It will also include typesetting, layout, circulation, and production as minor aspects.
