Course Name : AP Latin Type of Course : Elective Course Available to : 12th grade
Prerequisites : H . Latin V ( 85 %+)
Description : This is an academically rigorous course that offers a comprehensive study of both Latin language and literature , with a particular focus on selections from Caesar ' s " De Bello Gallico " and Vergil ' s " Aeneid ." This course is designed for highly motivated students who are prepared for a challenging exploration of advanced Latin texts and linguistic analysis . The curriculum aligns with the College Board ' s AP Latin guidelines , providing students with an opportunity to earn college credit and showcase their proficiency in Latin . AP Latin is designed to prepare students for success in the AP Latin Exam , providing a challenging yet rewarding opportunity to showcase advanced proficiency in Latin language and literature . This course is ideal for students with a passion for classical studies and a desire to excel in advanced Latin scholarship . By earning a 4 or 5 on the AP exam , students will earn a Biliteracy seal on their diploma . Students earn an additional 1.0 quality point towards their GPA for this course .

Description : This course is an introduction to the language and culture of the Spanish-speaking countries . This course is the foundation for students to begin developing proficiency in reading , writing , listening , and speaking skills . Development of these four skills will occur in a curriculum that emphasizes the foreign language content standards of communication , cultures , connections , comparisons , and communities .
Course Name : Native Spanish I Type of Course : Elective Course Available to : 9th - 12th grade
Prerequisites : Native Spanish speaker
Description : This course is designed for heritage learners of Spanish , this course can accommodate students from a wide range of backgrounds , from those who are minimally functional ( can comprehend Spanish but are not able to speak fluently , read or write ) to those who are more proficient and / or literate in Spanish . This course focuses on the development of communicative competence in reading , writing , speaking and listening and viewing , as well as on understanding Hispanic cultures and issues of identity of heritage speakers of Spanish in the United States . Students will also develop an awareness and understanding of Hispanic cultures , including language variation , customs , geography , history , and current events .
