DEM manages an annual budget of nearly $94,000,000 with one-third consisting of homeland security and emergency preparedness grant funds that San Francisco administers for the Bay Area Region. Every spring DEM presents its upcoming fiscal year budget to the Mayor’s Office and then to the Board of Supervisors for final approval. For the upcoming fiscal year (F/Y) 2017-2018 DEM Budget, the following initiatives will be included:

Staffing:

• Dispatcher Hiring Plan: DEM continues to receive support from the Mayor and the Board of Supervisors to carry out our multi-year hiring initiative to hire 65 new dispatchers over the next two fiscal years.

Increasing Supervisory Capacity for DEC Operations: DEM received approval for one 1840 Junior Management Assistant and one 8239 Supervisor.  Both of these positions will add to the Supervisors abilty to assist the 9-1-1 Operations Floor.

Adding Resources to Administration’s Human Resources Unit: as a participating sponsor Department in DHR’s Personnel Analyst Training Program, DEM will be adding a graduating trainee to support our aggressive dispatcher hiring plan.
