The famous Festival of the Forest Timber Display is a free event held throughout the 2 week festivities from Oct 1st to 15th . Every year there is something more amazing than the last . From local School Students to craftsmen from all over Australia , there is something for everyone . The Festival of the Forest hosts its Grand Opening on Saturday 1 October at midday at the Festival Hall , Grigg St . Open throughout the festival from 10am-6pm . Atherton-Herberton Historic Railway will be holding a Jacaranda Festival day to celebrate the track ’ s 106th birthday at the Herberton Station , John Street . 10.30am to 4pm on Sunday October 9 . There will be train rides on the Jacaranda Express , face painting , stalls , history of the railway and sleeper cutters , blacksmithing , bush poetry and great music . Food available at a sausage sizzle and Devonshire tea stalls . Councillor Kate Eden to plant a Jacaranda tree .

Celebrating 30 years , the 2016 Tablelands Garden & Lifestyle Expo will be held at the Malanda Showground on October 8 from 8.30am - 4pm and & October 9 from 8.30am - 2.30pm . The expo will feature more than 60 garden & lifestyle stalls , cut flower display , scarecrow competition , giant raffle & door prize , plus more ! Entry only $ 5 .

ECHO is holding a Community Fun Day in Malanda to celebrate their 25th anniversary on Saturday October 29 . The vision for the day is to celebrate ECHO ’ s service to the community by creating an enjoyable and inclusive event full of things to do and see and to raise FUN in the community . Entry to the event is free as are most of the activities . The action packed day includes old fashioned games including tunnel ball , egg and spoon , corner spry , leader ball , sack race and three legged race , a tug of war competition , celebrity sumo suit wrestling with Cr Anthony Ball as the first celebrity entrant , thong throwing , yabbie racing , handball and goal kicking comp with Tyson Muscat from NRL , jumping castle , Yungaburra Lion ’ s train , tai chi and yoga class , ballroom dancing display and class , ECHO 25th birthday cake decorating competition , children ’ s colouring-in competition and much more !

Various prizes for the day include a family pass to Sugarworld , ECHO lucky door prize and ECHO quiz prize including accommodation , meal vouchers , hamper and vouchers and items from local businesses . The day also features displays and presentations by community , businesses and service groups including Police , Fire Brigade , Malanda Information Centre / TRC , NBN , Girl Guides , Tablelands Youth Movement , Malanda Eels Bullride , Malanda Milk , local crafts and products and buskers .
