Sandy Tate River
Well we thought 2018 was a wet year.
More records have been broken in 2019
and the wet season still has a little time
to go. After the exceptional summer
heat we have moved to cooler temps,
greener grass and lots of refreshing
clear water. I tell everyone who will
listen that now is the time get out
and appreciate this wonderful time.
You never know, this might be the last
good wet for a few years.
There are so many places to go and the
season of long weekends is upon us so
I thought I’d tick off some places that
come to mind.
First and most obvious is Tinaroo Dam
and environs. Water is going over
the spillway for the first time since
2012 and Lake Tinaroo is looking
magnificent. The spillway itself makes
for a great photo opportunity and
just over the bridge you can travel
down the “no through road” track
downstream to some great river
Mungalli Falls
scenery that is usually just turgid pools.
A walk up the Torpedo Bay trails just
past the information kiosk on the east
side of the dam wall will provide you
with great views over the now full
dam. Further along the Danbulla Road
the beautiful Kauri Creek is better
than ever and beckons swimming and
exploration upstream.
All the big rivers are flowing well. A
visit to Barron Falls is a must while
the spectacle lasts and the new Edge
Tinaroo Dam
