It ’ s 5am and the sun is just coming up over the horizon , you ’ re feeling a little worse for wear and , to be honest , you ’ re not really sure where you are … Sounds like a typical weekend in the life of a university student , right ?
Except that you ’ ve just woken up in the Baltic Sea . You ’ re part of a UAS team in the Baltic Tall Ships Race , and if you ’ re going to find your way to Helsinki you ’ re going to have to navigate there . Ready ?

Starting university can be pretty daunting . Chances are you ’ ll be on the lookout for clubs to join where you can make new friends and have fun doing what you love . Why not give your local UAS a try ?
There are 15 UASs across the UK , each linked to several nearby universities and an airfield . You don ’ t have to be committed to a military career ( although a potential interest in the RAF helps ) but you do have to have a sense of adventure , an interest in sports and a confident , can-do attitude .
It ’ s the perfect way to meet new people , enjoy a massive range of sports and adventurous training and get a taste of life in the RAF . In addition , every UAS member has the opportunity to undergo flying training in our Tutor aircraft .
So , while your fellow students are propping up the university bar , you could be soaring 5,000 feet above them . And be getting paid to do it !
