WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?

From UAS student to Medical Officer

Then
Flight Lieutenant Kiran Gill studied medicine at Newcastle University . As part of her sponsorship package she joined Northumbria UAS . Today she ’ s a GP based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire .
‘ Who ’ d have thought that at 19 I ’ d make one of the best decisions of my life ? A highlight of my career so far was taking part in a humanitarian exercise to Africa , where we provided medical care for the local population . I ’ ve also been to the Falkland Islands , where I got to go out with the Search and Rescue crew to emergency situations on land and at sea .’

MY EXPERIENCE …

ROBIN GOULD , SPONSORED STUDENT , NORTHUMBRIA UAS
‘ I ’ m just wrapping up my third year at Durham University , where I ’ ve been studying law . In a few months I ’ ll start Initial Officer Training . Being part of a UAS has been absolutely brilliant ; I ’ ve had the best time of my life , had so many opportunities and done so many fantastic things . I ’ m quite sad that it ’ s coming to an end , really .
‘ Because we get paid , the UAS is like a part-time job – and what a job to have ! While my friends have been working behind bars or in supermarkets , I ’ ve been flying , sailing and travelling round Europe . My friends and family can ’ t believe it when I tell them what we get up to .
Now
‘ All in all I ’ ve done about 70 hours of flying and completed my solo aerobatics course . After getting to ride in Typhoon and Hawk fast jets , I decided to apply for Pilot training , so having this much time under my belt will give me a massive advantage when it comes to elementary flying training . I ’ ve got the rest of my career to look forward to .’
