Is the excessive use of Native American motives and patterns offensive?
As it was mentioned in the previous article, tribal elements in fashion have rapidly spread in the last few years. However, it remains a question what all the Native American tribes have to say about it. Do they like the new trends, is it an honor for them, are they proud? Or are they rather furious? There were some topic related issues in the past that may lead us to the answer.
The beads that are used for the clothes and jewellery are mostly plastic, while the original Native American beads are traditionally made of wood and shell. Thanks to the characteristic colors of the trend, this year’s most fashionable colors will be red, orange, brown, turquoise and black.
The first bigger case of the 21st century was when the American clothing brand Urban Outfitters had to rename their ‘Navajo’ themed collection. The brand had over twenty pieces with tribal patterns in their Spring-Summer collection in 2011.
