Sea of Despair

by Danielle Patterson

They take ahold of your mind and your soul.

Your days are clouded with feelings so bleak.

They travel as waves you cannot control.

Unable to breathe in their strong chokehold.

So isolated they cannot hear your shriek.

They take ahold of your mind and your soul.

Stuck in the storm and feeling as though

All motivation is starting to leak.

They travel as waves you cannot control.

You drift throughout life and moments are dull.

Your feet are lead and your body is weak.

They take ahold of your mind and your soul.

They swoop unexpectedly like a gull;

Incessant pecking with their razor beaks.

They travel as waves you cannot control.

In the Sea of Despair you stand on the hull.

The deep, dark waters cause your ship to sink

They take ahold of your mind and your soul.

They travel as waves you cannot control.
