I was tired, but that isn’t true. I was not tired physically, or no more tired than I usually was at the end of a working day. I was not old, although some people have an image of me as being old then. I was forty two. No, the only tired I was, was tired of giving in.”
After her arrestment, a lot of black people started to protest segregated seating. At her trial day (December 5th) was decided that the colored people wouldn’t take the Montgomery’s buses. The protest was bigger than they thought that would be and it helped to finish the buses segregation.
So, why a simple action moved millions of people? It was because she wasn’t the only person that was tired of being treated in a different way just to be black. What Rosa did was inspiring and was the trigger to the other black people to try to find the equality and for the end of segregation. But, do you actually believe that the segregation was finished? The black people have the same rights that the white people?
Her husband never disappointed her, even when she was arrested. She felt bad for him because he was fired because of her.
Why she was arrested? You’re probably wondering, well...
In Montgomery, black people used to sit in the back of the buses. So, one day, a white man got into the bus and didn’t have any seat for him in the front of the bus. Then, the bus driver told her to go to the “colored seats”, in the back of the bus. But she didn’t. She stayed in the same place that she was.
The bus driver called the police and they arrested her. And the most shocking thing was that it wasn’t the first time that she had problems with the driver. A few days before her arrestment, she paid the ticket in the front and she refused to go to where the black people was supposed to sit. So he started to fight with her, but she got off the bus only for no lose for him.
She said that was really funny when people asked her what was her motivation and she sees their expressions when she answered them “People always say that I didn’t give up my seat because
Why? Why she was arrested? Just because she was black? Or because she didn’t do what the bus driver told her to do? A pathetic thing put her behind the bars. She was just fighting for what she thinks that is right.
But, let’s start from the beginning.
When she was younger, after her parents got divorce, she and her mom moved to her grandparents house in Pine Level, Alabama. But, when she was eleven and she completed her education over there, she moved to Montgomery.
She studied in a school for girls, but she wasn’t able to graduate with her class because she was taking care of her mom, that was very sick. So, she just received her diploma after her marriage with Raymond.
He was an amazing person. He was self-educated and he helped and supported her a lot. They worked together with many social justice organization.
