Triggerfish Animation Developing‘ Sea Monster’ Film by GEORG SZALAI source THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

THE movie will be written by Raffaella Delle Donne, who already worked on the company’ s first two releases-- Adventures in Zambezia and Khumba. It will be produced by the Triggerfish producers who produced those two films, led by Triggerfish CEO and producer Stuart Forrest.
Cape Town-based Triggerfish, South Africa’ s answer to Pixar, said the 3D adventure is about a marine biologist who discovers an ancient sea monster in South Africa. The film has no voice cast attached yet.
Triggerfish has had early success with its first feature, Zambezia, about a young falcon who travels to the bird city Zambezia. It featured the voices of Leonard Nimoy, Jeff Goldblum and Samuel L. Jackson.
The film’ s budget was less than $ 20 million. At the end of the first sales cycle, Forrest expects the movie to be profitable.
During the Cannes film festival, Triggerfish for the first time screened follow-up Khumba, featuring the voices of Steve Buscemi, Laurence Fishburne and Liam Neeson.
The film features a half-striped zebra born into a herd obsessed with stripes. When his father, the leader of the herd, blames him for the lack of rain and the death of his mother, the outcast zebra leaves the herd.
“ While there is a lot of U. S.- centric Hollywood animation, Triggerfish is building a platform for Africa’ s creative voice,” Forrest recently told THR.“ We are bringing a new voice to world animation, which has never been heard.”

Online content channel launched

A new player, AlternaTV, has entered the online space and will provide affordable, accessible and relevant content for users, at a time and place that is convenient for them. The on-demand Internetstreaming channel will provide viewers with 24 / 7 access to free content, including themed shows that will cover the following genres: gadgets and gaming; motoring; fashion and style; music; movies and DVDs; dating; as well as the best of the Internet and social trends. The channel will also act as a portal that will provide viewers with instant access to the best in international alternative rock music videos, and the hottest local music videos straight out of South Africa.
Online TV is revolutionising the way in which people consume content. In the past, with linear TV, the options for viewers were quite finite in that viewers would have to watch a scheduled TV programme at a specific time on a particular channel. With the introduction of online content channels, control now lies with the individual. And while some may say that it is a little early to launch a 24 / 7 online content channel in South Africa, according to Nico Nel, creative director and creator of AlternaTV, in this case, early means good.
