Wool for Wonders
We started the year with a challenge from Mrs Cawcutt to collect 5 000 knitted items in 2016. We gladly accepted. Our classes, friends and family members got together and began to knit. We knitted squares of 15 cm × 15 cm and because the challenge was house driven, there was a bit of friendly competition in the air.
Mrs Said’ s office was filled with squares and with the help of the Senior Aftercare girls, the squares were quickly sorted into different colours and tallied. Kirsten was on a winning streak as they brought in the most items. Altogether we collected a whopping 5 634 knitted items. This has been the biggest collection in WGJS history. A special thank you goes to Mrs le Grange, Mrs Collison, Mrs van Ingen-Kal, Ms Giffard, Mrs Boone and a senior group“ Wisdom in Action” for offering their talents to knit these squares into beautiful blankets that will be delivered by our Head of Service, Yusrah Khan, to various NGOs.
We would like to encourage our girls to keep knitting as we have an even bigger challenge for 2017!
