Charity

“ Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It is not.”
Dr. Seuss
We have a big heart and a passion for helping other people. This can be experienced in the classroom, on the playground and also through raising funds and donating all the money brought in to various NGO’ s.
The focus of the charities this year has been“ People who help us” and the families at WGJS have really done well to show their love and support. They got involved either by baking and donating delicious cakes, by volunteering to help sell the treats on Cake Sale day, or by sending their daughters to school with some change to buy a scrumptious treat.
Our Grade 2s raised money for the NSRI. There were banners up about the NSRI as well as key rings for sale. The Grade Rs went to a lot of effort and raised money for Mountain Rescue.
The second term was an exciting one, with the Grade 3s raising money for Volunteer Wildfire Services. During an assembly the WGJS girls were taught all about the VWS and where the money would be used to help put out fires.
During the third term, the Grade 6s provided delicious eats and raised money for Tygerberg Hospice. The Grade 7s spent their 67 minutes for Mandela Day serving our community with sweet treats. They called it a“ Cake bomb!”. The Grade 4s decided to try and bring cakes to raise as much money as they could for the Shark Spotters Programme, and they did an excellent job. The Grade 1s chose an amazing NGO called Help 2 Read.
The families of WGJS kept the momentum going by supporting the Grade 5 cake sale for St. Johns at the end of the year.
