Science experiment

The Grade 6s have taken on the role of scientists throughout the year, learning to question, investigate and experiment to discover meaning. Here are some of their experiences.
In our phases of matter experiments, we discovered that not all solids are always solids. Water can be made into a solid. The best part was when the water balloon popped.
Jorja Hewitt Grade 6B
My favourite experiment this year was using Oreos to learn about the phases of the moon. We opened the Oreos and cut the creamy part to demonstrate each phase of the moon. I really enjoyed this experiment as we got to eat the Oreos at the end.
Yasmeen Dhansay Grade 6B
When we were learning about melting we took different coloured wax crayons and melted them over a fire. They turned from a solid to a liquid. We learnt that heat is needed to turn a solid to a liquid and when the heat is removed it becomes a solid again. I enjoyed it because I had fun with my group and we got to keep the multi-coloured wax crayons that we made.
Isabella Muller Grade 6B
In the third term we did the density experiment where we poured different amounts of sugar into containers with coloured water. We learnt that the thickest water will be at the bottom, and the layers will pile on top. We enjoyed the pretty the result and found it amazing that the water didn’ t mix together.
