Emotional

Intelligence( EQ)

We created some new and re-invented some alreadypresent opportunities to encourage and enhance the principles of EQ at WGJS this year.
Anti-Bully Campaign
The Department of Education appealed to schools to introduce an anti-bully campaign within the classroom. This involved learners making a pledge to make friends, be respectful of their peers and to treat others the way they would want to be treated. Each class received an anti-bully presentation, at the end of which they were asked to sign the pledge. The girls were introduced to the fundamentals of bullying behaviour, challenged to think about some of their own behaviour from a new perspective and to consider the values of true friendship. Our WGJS anti-bully campaign was enthusiastically received and we hope to continue involving our girls in endeavours that encourage them to become more self-aware and socially-sensitive.
HPV Vaccination Campaign
“ Before you speak, THINK and be SMART … It’ s hard to fix a crumpled HEART …”
Every year the Department of Education and the Department of Health embark on a joint effort to promote the HPV( Human Papillomavirus) Vaccination Campaign in schools across the Western Cape. The HPV is one of the leading causes of cervical cancer in women. The Department of Health promotes vaccination against the virus and offers vaccination free of charge to all school girls between the ages of 9 and 10, focussing on learners when they are in Grade 4. WGJS has a wonderful relationship with the amazing campaign nurses based at the Lady Michaelis Community Health Centre in Plumstead and this year’ s HPV Vaccination Campaign went well. Our girls were very brave and“ Rocket the Injection Bear” was on hand for anyone who needed a little extra comfort. Grade 4A received the 2016 Certificate of Bravery, for having the largest number of volunteer superstars and wholeheartedly accepting the challenge to be brave this year!
