for Girls is a registered Child and Youth Care Centre
which provides a safe haven for girls between the ages
of 3 and 18 who are abused, abandoned, neglected
and orphaned.
Our goal was to present these ladies with something to
snuggle up in during the chilly season. We are delighted
to say that we were able to donate a winter warmer
pack, including two pairs of pyjamas and comfy slippers,
to each young lady at the home. Not only this, but we
were also able to make winter a bit warmer for four
other children’s homes around the Southern Suburbs.
A huge hug to those who helped make these young
ladies feel loved and cared for (and warm!) this winter!
Posy Day
One of our new charity initiatives for 2018 was our
WGJS Posy Day and what a great success it turned
out to be. Our cars overflowed with hand-made
posies of flowers and treats from our amazing WGJS
families. Along with some very excited Service Pillar
girls, we made our way to four retirement facilities in
the Southern Suburbs. The old folk were overwhelmed
with gratitude as our Wynberg ladies chatted and
smiled their way through the corridors and tea rooms,
dropping off beautiful posies and packets of biscuits
along the way. The service pillar girls were humbled that
something as small as a bunch of flowers or a packet
of sweets could mean so much to an elderly person –
it was truly something special to witness. Thank you
WGJS families for blowing us away with your support.
Mother’s Day Picnic
As part of our Pyjama drive, we arranged a Mother’s
Day picnic for Grade R and 1 girls and their moms. It
was a wonderful morning of pyjamas, picnic breakfasts
and crafts, and a special time for our youngest girls
to celebrate their moms. Everyone, big and small,
was dressed snug in their pyjamas, dressing gowns
and slippers and we were entertained by our WGJS
marimba teams.
Sunflower Fund
WGJS hopped on board with the Sunflower Fund once
again in 2018 with the sale of topes for their #bethehope
campaign. Sunflower day was a colourful day filled with
smiles, as Wynberg ladies came to school wearing their
brightly coloured topes, to show their support for those
who are fighting blood disease.
