t r o p e R s ’ n a m r i a h C port Re an’s irm Cha I can’t believe that we are nearing the end of the 2018 school year. For me, as the newly elected chairman of the School Governing Body, it has been a challenging and exciting year. Being co-opted as an SGB member more than two years ago was invaluable in understanding my role as chairman of the SGB. A special thanks to the previous chairman and his team for their dedication and commitment they have given to WGJS. Their hard work is evident in the projects they have successfully completed over the years. By the same token, I have to mention that I am currently supported by a dynamic group. Each individual member being highly-skilled in their discipline. Collectively, we are working as a team and always having the best interest of our learners and the school in mind. Sadly, we will be saying farewell to Mr Clive Belcher, who will be leaving at the end of 2018. He has been a member of the SGB for a number of years. His commitment, dedication and invaluable advice over the years will be sorely missed. As the newly elected chairman of the SGB, the issue of transformation at WGJS was brought to my attention. However, I can assure parents that the principal and her management team are fully committed to finding solutions to attract suitable applicants to apply for vacant teaching posts, despite the fact that over the years there has been reluctance from eligible applicants applying for these posts. Back (L-R): Duncan Adriaans, Dee Cawcutt, Mark Hess, Juanita Yardin, Peter Ruthenberg Front: Suraya Gierdien, Coralie Thompson, Michelle Bell Absent: Clive Belcher Academic, cultural and sports results of WGJS remains impressive and in this regard, I wish to thank our educators and coaches for their exceptional hard work. We are truly grateful for the immense effort that you employ and all that you do for the learners at our school. To the support staff, a big thank you, your hard work is much appreciated. I would like to offer my sincere appreciation to the parents. It is through your support and dedication that we can offer a secure and resourceful environment for our learners. Your dedication in paying school fees has ensured that we could embark on the various projects for the benefit of all our learners. Recently, when the issue of safety became a primary concern around many schools in the Western Cape, we were in a position to immediately implement additional security measures. Additional security staff were hired and state of the art CCTV cameras will be installed shortly throughout the school. To my fellow SGB members, I would like to express my sincere thanks for your support and co-operation during this new term of the SGB. Finally, I would like to offer my thanks and appreciation to Mrs Cawcutt and her management team for their tireless efforts during this year. Mr Mark Hess Chairman 9
