Van Gogh and His ‘petit’ village
orsay museum
Paris! Flying to a romantic capital, my mind was full of excitement. No information, no schedule, no destination. As usual, no plan was made before my trip. However, due to the fact that there are several popular tourist attractions in Paris among tourists, I could not possibly ignore them even if I wished not to fall in love with such tourist attractions.
As I adore a Dutch painter, Van Gogh, my foot step hurried to Orsay Museum that had multiples of his paintings. Van Gogh, what a great artist he is! His paintings in the museum were mostly painted when it was the twilight of his life in Auvers Sur Oise, France. Who would not admit that his paintings are not masterpieces of world? All of his works captured my heart. But there was one thing that appeared strange. The painting “Mademoiselle Gachet dans son jardin à Auvers-sur-Oise,” in which a girl with a yellow hat is in a garden, had a totally different feeling with other ones. Most of his works were blue and gloomy, in that his emotion was always low, melancholy with a heavy heart. But in that painting, I could not find a single factor that indicated loneliness or forlornness but simply jolliness, and joyfulness. How can this be? My Van Gogh usually seemed to have tearful eyes. Yet, only this one, I could not see them. Why? My curiosity, as a huge fan of his, gave me the desire to go to a village, Auvers Sur Oise, where Van Gogh painted his last painting and died at last.
In December, a real winter had not approached near Paris yet, considering the wide expanse of blue sky, silky sunshine, resonant flow of Seine River and chilly wind. Approaching Auvers Sur Oise with those fantastic harmonies was so sweet.Auvers Sur Oise was a little village located near Paris.
