I’m Sorry—We’re Going to Have to Let You Go
Picture this: I’m in my office, taking a clarity break. My phone is on DND. My laptop is closed. I have a notepad in front of me, and a steaming hot cup of coffee.
I’m thinking about revenue goals and business development strategies. But more than just that—I’m thinking about how we maintain our focus on being faith-driven professionals—especially when pursuing new business in this weak market.
An old line from a classic film comes to mind—dark, biting, and cynical.
Nope.
That’s not it, Kev.
Somehow, there’s a way that we can remain true to our values while still hustling for, and winning, new business—in any market.
I start jotting down our Core Values on my pad:

I’m interrupted by some commotion.
Finding Lucy at her desk, crying with Mia standing over her, attempting to console her, she manages to speak between sobs, “He cussed me out, then said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll swing by with a coloring book and crayons—seems like that’s about the skill level you’re working with!’”
I don’t even have to ask. I know—anyone in our organization would.
He’s a CUSTOMER, and this is not an isolated incident.
Mia looks up at me, imploringly.
