There are several more opportunities to learn. We have Pallet University that was developed to help us and our customers to make more educated decisions in the types of pallets we need for our operation. It is an excellent training tool.
There are multiple ways to serve and learn from each other through the different committees that deal with membership, resources, state advocacy and resources.
Reflecting on your time with the WPA, what has been a highlight or particularly memorable moment for you?
I never thought that volunteering to help for this association would have so much meaning to our journey in the business as it has helped in many positive ways. As I gave my time on the different committees I have served, then the board and now as the president (or El Presidente as some of you call me); I have gathered a tremendous of information and great relationships that have propelled our business in unimaginable ways. My wife and son have been there learning with me. That too me has been the highlight, to be able to learn from others and with others along the way with my family.
What do you believe sets the WPA apart from other industry associations?
One of the things I learned when I attended the first WPA Annual meeting is that this is a place to feel welcomed. A place where I can learn from others and obviously a lot of gathered information via webinars and Pallet University. I do not think you can get that on any other association.
What advice would you give to other members of the WPA to maximize the benefits of their membership?
To get the best out of the WPA is to get involved, even if you have one hour a month to improve your career, attend a webinar, get the pallet University Certificate, attend the Annual Meeting and visit every vendor (believe me, there is something to learn from each and every single one of them, you do not have to reinvent the wheel), talk to a board member, contact us via email, phone or find us at the meeting (we can guide you in the right direction) or serve in one of the committees mentioned above. Ask questions at the webinars, at the Annual Meeting, approach the speakers. Believe me, you won’t be disappointed of the progress you will bring back to your business.
