introduced several notable new programs in recent years, including online Master Learning Group and webinar sessions, as well as the online store. WPA will soon be launching Pallet University. Glenn Meeks provided a sneak preview of the new program.
The latter two initiatives are designed to help generate revenue to support WPA programs. At this point, Rupert noted, the Annual Meeting subsidizes most association activities, and these other initiatives can help broaden the group’s revenue stream.
Daniel Hord was announced as the new chair of the advocacy committee by Meeks, the acting chair of the committee. WPA has purchased software from openstates.org to monitor any legislation that would negatively impact the industry.
Hord stressed the urgency of increasing communication between members and the advocacy board. “(We need) you telling us exactly what it is that you need and how it is impacting you, so we can do our job,” he said. The advocacy committee is looking for a liaison member from each state, whether it is a 35-year industry veteran or someone who has only been in the industry five years but is passionate about what they do.
Speaking on behalf of the revenue streams committee, Jason Saunders gave a shout out to the various Annual Meeting and golf tournament sponsors.
Beatrice Vasquez spoke to the accomplishments of the resources committee, which has been instrumental in delivering association programs. “It doesn't take just one person it takes a group,” she said. “For those of you, especially new members, if you want to find a way to get involved, a wonderful way is through these committees, and we may set out other committees as we grow.”
One key area of focus for the resources committee has been Pallet University. The initial course to be offered through Pallet University is a wood pallet fundamentals certification course.
The certification course itself has 10 lessons, 30 chapters, more than three hours worth of video tutorials, more than 40 downloadable assets and images and reference documents that can be part of a foundational library

Mazza ended his address by speaking to younger members. “This is the best thing you're going to do for your business and for your personal development in business. Get involved, don't be afraid to speak up. Talk to the guy standing next year talk to whoever's standing at the bar. Youl have something in common, you are all in the pallet business be active in this community, get involved, and it will help you succeed.”
