Paul describes it as a “ pawn shop for clothes ” but a curated experience . “ That was the idea – to bring recycled curated fashion to town . It ’ s saving the planet while also making you look cool .”
Paul explains that sometime in the ’ 90s , the fashion industry went from making high quality clothes that would last years to making cheap , low quality products overseas .
“ The fast fashion industry is killing the planet quickly . So all these clothes are primarily made in the USA . I haven ’ t found anything that is as high quality and as cool as vintage clothing is in my opinion .”
The store sells items primarily made in the U . S . A . from before the turn of the millennium . Racks of T-shirts , workwear , hats , band shirts , vintage Levi ’ s and Carrharts and anything vintage West Virginia line the store . Also for sale are CDs , VHS tapes and records .
“ People love the physical media – it ’ s starting to come back ,” he said . “ I guess people got sick of streaming everything and you don ’ t own anything . You stop paying for it and it ’ s gone .”
Paul recently added skateboards and skateboarding equipment along with a lounge area with a TV and VHS player and a Nintendo 64 meant to mimic a bedroom . “ That was pretty much to supply me and my buddies with stuff cause there ’ s not too many of us around , but there ’ s enough that someone needed to do it . It ’ s been cool to bring the skaters in and give them a place to chat and talk about skating and hang out .”
At 23 , Paul has been able to channel his interests into a successful business while providing others with a unique experience .
“ I call myself a nostalgia dealer – you walk in there and it ’ s a blast from the past . I have people that come in here and say – I was at that show . They point to the concert on the back , they owned the shirt for some time . It brings people back to good times .” ❖
A collection of VHS tapes – including Andy Griffith episodes – are shelved at the store .
Vinyl records take a trip back in time – along with most everything else in the store .
