pulmonary medications before presenting to the ED . Additionally , women were more frequently treated with nitroglycerin and gastrointestinal medications ( histamine blocker , antacid , and proton pump inhibitor ). When comparing to the 25-year-old data set , there was an improvement in gender bias with women receiving more electrocardiograms , more cardiac monitoring , and more laboratory testing ( lactic dehydrogenase isoenzyme and creatine kinase-MB testing ) than the previous study . Improvements in cardiology consultations , aspirin , heparin , antibiotics , anxiolytics , emergency catheterization , and use of thrombolytic agents were noted .
CONCLUSION
Gender bias was less regarding the care of chest pain in the ED compared to differences in care published 25 years ago at the same university affiliated hospital in WV . The improvements in the management of new-onset , non-traumatic chest pain is encouraging . We are expanding this data analysis to explore gender differences in rural versus urban facilities in WV .
