University of Charleston Names New Pharmacy Dean
The University of Charleston ( UC ) is pleased to announce Dr . Scott Weston has been selected to serve as dean of its school of pharmacy . He will join the UC community on July 1 , 2021 . Weston has served in a variety of leadership roles in pharmacy education as a faculty member , department chair and associate dean since 2003 . He is currently the associate dean for faculty affairs at Harding University in Arkansas .
“ Dr . Weston brings the perfect blend of administrative , teaching , research and industry experience to lead a worldclass school of pharmacy ,” says UC President Martin Roth . “ His pharmacy knowledge and leadership style resonated strongly with students , faculty and staff . I look forward to Dr . Weston ’ s contributions to the school of pharmacy and to the university leadership team .”
Prior to his role at Harding , Weston was a tenured professor of pharmaceutical , social and administrative sciences at Belmont University , where he also served as associate dean of academic affairs and assessment in the college of pharmacy . He has more than 20 years of experience in the private sector as a retail pharmacist and as a senior scientist in the field of computational chemistry with multinational firms such as Johnson & Johnson and Takeda Pharmaceuticals . Weston holds a Ph . D . in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry from the University of Mississippi and an MBA from Harding University .

New River Community and Technical College Launches New LPN to RN Bridge Program
New River Community and Technical College is now accepting applications for the college ’ s new LPN to RN associate of applied science bridge program in Lewisburg .
“ We have worked diligently to establish this program in Greenbrier County to meet the need for registered nurses ,” says Dr . Bonny Copenhaver , the college ’ s president . “ The addition of the RN bridge program expands the nursing offerings that we are able to provide , as we currently offer the practical nursing certificate program at our campuses in Beaver , Lewisburg and Summersville .”
The intensive 16-month hybrid program will meet at the college ’ s Greenbrier Valley campus three days a week . New classes will begin annually in both January and August .
