CAMC Announces Center for Learning and Research

Charleston Area Medical Center ( CAMC ) is expanding its role as an academic medical center and its commitment of providing simulation training , education , research and learning experiences to staff , CAMC employees , health care professionals and learners throughout West Virginia .
The CAMC Foundation has launched the Knowledge at the Center of Care Campaign to raise $ 6 million from the community to help build a new CAMC Center for Learning and Research building and outfit it with the latest technology and equipment . It will be located across from CAMC Memorial Hospital and used to train all types of medical and health care professionals to reduce error during surgery , prescribing , crisis interventions and general practice .
The facility will also serve as a learning environment for residents and students from affiliated universities around the country and provide space for live , virtual and multisite participation of learners from all CAMC locations as well as other health care professionals . It will house a state-of-the-art simulation center to provide learners a safe environment to practice skills and utilize new equipment with a safe transfer of skills and knowledge to patient care . It will replace the current simulation center , which has outgrown its space in CAMC General Hospital . The total cost of the project is $ 18 million and will be paid for with funds raised from the community and CAMC bond funds .
Partnership Offers Pathway to Medical School with Undergraduate Admission
West Virginia Wesleyan College ( WVWC ) and the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine ( WVSOM ) recently announced the Go D . O . Early Scholars Program , which will offer high school seniors who qualify entry to medical school with their undergraduate admission .
Both in-state and out-of-state students who score at least a 1390 on the SAT or at least a 30 on the ACT and have at least a 3.75 grade point average qualify for Go D . O . Students accepted into the program will receive guaranteed acceptance into WVSOM upon successful completion of the undergraduate program requirements and interview as well as a waived MCAT . Up to 10 prospective students will be admitted to the program on an annual basis .
