SPECIAL ADVERTISING SECTION Preparing for the Next 20 Years of Health Care Delivery A mission-driven organization since its beginning, Roane General Hospital (RGH) first opened its doors in 1970 as a 40-bed hospital and 40-bed extended care facility. Today, RGH remains committed to providing local, high-quality services so Roane County residents can avoid driving long distances to receive care. As the county’s largest private employer with 50 years of dedicated service to the community, the staff and leadership at RGH are setting the stage for the future of health care in the region with a $22 million expansion and renovation project. The project will include a new building as well as a renovation of the current building and will allow RGH to be on the industry forefront of a transformational shift in health and wellness by giving people tools to lead healthier lifestyles. The expansion plan includes an additional 40,000 square feet, including a 30,000- square-foot medical office building for primary and specialty care services and physical, speech and occupational therapy services such as a new therapy pool, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation, fitness center, community educational space and a café specializing in healthier choices. Other new construction will include outpatient registration areas, waiting areas and access corridors. The renovation plan touches about 17,000 square feet and expands and modernizes the emergency department, moves the walk-in clinic into the hospital space and updates all the hospital’s clinical outpatient service areas. “This project will enhance Roane General’s ability to ensure that local residents obtain high-quality health care as close to home as possible and allow the hospital to bring in more specialties on a part-time basis,” says CEO Doug Bentz. In addition, this project will create public spaces outside of patient care areas that will include works by local artisans and historical pictures. They will serve as community hub landing spaces with a Roane County feel. “Roane General Hospital is taking the next step in the evolution from just treating illness to actually promoting wellness,” says Roane General Medical Clinic Director Scott Duffy, M.D. “The hospital is going to great lengths toward that end with the development of the new health and wellness center.” Architectural and engineering plans for the renovation and expansion were completed in August 2019, and the hospital held a groundbreaking ceremony in October. The expected final completion date for the project is late spring of 2021. In conjunction with the new amenities, RGH leadership is also launching Prescription for Your Health, a program designed to promote health, wellness and disease prevention. This program changes the traditional focus of the hospital’s role on treating illness and disease. (304) 927-4444 | www.roanegeneralhospital.com 200 Hospital Drive, Spencer, WV 25276
