Christopher Arthur Joins Spilman
Christopher Arthur.
Spilman Thomas & Battle announced that Christopher Arthur has joined the law firm as counsel. Arthur previously served as general counsel and deputy commissioner of West Virginia Division of Financial Institutions and, most recently, completed eight years of service as assistant U. S. attorney.
Arthur’ s work will span both the firm’ s litigation and corporate departments, with emphasis on the areas of bankruptcy, consumer finance law and workouts. He brings extensive private practice experience in representing financial institutions, secured and unsecured creditors in bankruptcy matters and litigation concerning allegations of state or federal violations of consumer protection laws. In addition, Arthur represented the U. S. when it pursued claims under the False Claims Act and acted as the lead attorney on all immigration-related matters. That experience will help Arthur defend individuals and companies if they are facing investigations or lawsuits for alleged violations of the False Claims Act. Arthur will also assist companies in dealing with any immigration-related challenges they may face.
“ Spilman’ s reputation and diversity of representation are especially interesting to me,” Arthur says.“ My experience has led me to practice in a variety of areas.
Spilman’ s clientele fits well within my knowledge base, and I look forward to assisting wherever I am needed.”
“ With one look at Chris’ background and impact on the legal community, we knew he would be an essential asset to our clients,” Michael Basile, Spilman’ s managing member, says.“ His reputation precedes him, and we are extremely pleased to have someone of his caliber on our roster.”
Arthur earned both his undergraduate and law degrees from West Virginia University and his Certificate of International Business from Universidad Menendez y Pelayo, Santander, Spain.
