BUILDING FUTURE HEALTH CARE

Expanding access, Enhancing Services and Strengthening Care

The future of health care in Calhoun County is taking shape as Minnie Hamilton Health System advances one of the largest construction and modernization projects in its history.
This transformational initiative represents a significant investment in the health and well-being of our communities and reflects our ongoing commitment to providing high-quality health care close to home. Through a multi-phase construction and renovation project, Minnie Hamilton Health System is strengthening health care services, modernizing facilities, expanding access to care and preparing for the needs of future generations.
The project began in spring 2023 with critical infrastructure improvements throughout the facility. Phase 1 included replacement of aging sanitary lines and major water system upgrades, including installation of a new potable waterline extension to support a modern fire suppression system. Patient care areas also received extensive renovations, including upgrades to acute patient care rooms, restroom facilities, fixtures, cabinetry and improvements throughout the MedSurg and long-term care units.
Building upon that success, Phase 2 includes approximately 28,000 square feet of new construction designed to expand services and improve patient access. The centerpiece of this phase is the new Rural Health Clinic, scheduled to open in August 2026.
In addition to the clinic, Phase 2 includes a new laboratory, specialty clinic space, administrative offices, shell space for future dietary and cafeteria services, electrical infrastructure upgrades and plans for a rooftop helipad to strengthen emergency response capabilities.
The August 2026 opening of the first-floor clinic represents the first major public-facing completion milestone of Phase 2 and demonstrates progress being made toward a stronger health care future. Additional milestones include completion of the second floor in December 2026, completion of the kitchen and cafeteria in April 2027 and completion of Phase 2 in August 2027.
